The Roots of a Reforming Conservatism

Krishti u ngjall!

Yuval Levin has a brief but substantial essay in the latest issue of Modern Age that you might find worth your time: “The Roots of a Reforming Conservatism.” In it, Levin counsels conservatives to reflect upon their principles in order to articulate to the American people an alternative understanding of man and of society—one quite different from the standard that leftist intellectuals have successfully established in schools, the mass media, and other public institutions. This alternative understanding informs conservatives’ estimation of human knowledge and approach to politics, and we cannot hope to persuade minds in matters of policy before first engaging them on more fundamental issues. Leftist political positions flow from leftist principles, and it is on principle that the battle of ideas must be waged. Kudos to Levin.
