The Austerites Discuss Democracy

The ill conceived neoconservative plan to spread democracy in the Dar al-Islam provides an occasion for Auster and his interlocutors to discuss democracy and to contrast it with the original American understanding of self-government in a constitutional republic: “The horrible costs of ‘democracy.’” Sadly, the West has forgotten over two thousand years of political philosophy. Should we be surprised when those who reject hard earned wisdom end up fools?
